While Aspen has always been known around the world for its winters, the secret has been getting out. Today, more people are discovering what those of us who have lived here for years have always known: Aspen is just as special in July and August as it is during ski season.

After more than 20 years of living and working in the Roaring Fork Valley, I've watched our summers evolve into one of the most exciting times of the year. Families are extending their vacations, homeowners are spending more time at their mountain residences, and many first-time visitors quickly realize this isn't just a ski town. It's a year-round lifestyle.

Whether you're planning your first visit or returning for another unforgettable summer, here's how I'd spend a perfect weekend in Aspen and Snowmass.

Friday: Arrive and Experience Downtown Aspen

One of my favorite things about summer is how alive downtown Aspen becomes.

After checking in, spend the evening walking through town. Browse local boutiques, art galleries, and enjoy dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants that make Aspen one of the country's premier dining destinations.

If you're looking for live entertainment, check the schedules at the Wheeler Opera House or Belly Up Aspen. Between nationally recognized musicians, comedians, and special performances, there's almost always something happening.

Sometimes the best way to begin your weekend is simply taking a stroll through town and soaking in the atmosphere.

Saturday: Markets, Mountains, and Adventure

There's no better way to start a Saturday than the Aspen Saturday Market.

For more than 25 years, locals and visitors have gathered downtown to enjoy fresh produce, artisan goods, flowers, local food vendors, live music, and an incredible sense of community. It's one of those experiences that perfectly captures what Aspen summers are all about.

After the market, the rest of the day is yours to explore.

If you're looking for breathtaking scenery, take a drive over Independence Pass. The views alone are worth the trip, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for a short hike or simply enjoy Colorado's alpine landscape.

Another favorite is the drive to Ashcroft. The historic ghost town, beautiful valley setting, and surrounding hiking trails make it one of the area's most peaceful escapes.

If adventure is more your style, Aspen offers no shortage of outdoor activities.

Spend the afternoon mountain biking, hiking one of the valley's countless trails, paddle boarding, golfing, fly fishing, or simply enjoying the incredible weather that makes summer here so enjoyable.

Sunday: One of Aspen's Best Traditions

No summer weekend feels complete without a ride up the Silver Queen Gondola.

Every Sunday throughout the summer, Bluegrass Sundays at the Sundeck bring together live music, incredible mountain views, lawn games, hiking, great food, and a relaxed atmosphere that's hard to find anywhere else.

It's one of my favorite traditions because it brings together everything that makes Aspen unique: world-class scenery, outstanding music, and a genuine sense of community.

Whether you're spending the afternoon with family, friends, or simply enjoying the views, it's a memorable way to end the weekend.

One of the greatest changes I've seen over the past 20 years is how people think about Aspen.

Winter introduced the world to our valley, but summer has become one of the biggest reasons people return year after year.

Many of my clients first visit for a concert, a festival, a weekend getaway, or simply to escape the summer heat. Before long, they begin asking a different question:
